Latest Project

I had the best time designing and creating this bedding set for my newest niece. I wanted to incorporate my beloved angora yarn into the project. I didn’t have very much processed at this time so I was trying to figure out how to integrate a small amount in a meaningful way. I also wanted the set to be beautiful, fashionable, to match my nieces theme and to be soft so it would actually be useable and appreciated. I wanted most of all to create something worthy of being a treasured heirloom.

I was thrilled to death that my niece loved the set. Although I am far from being a master seamstress I am happy with the way it came together. One blanket is t-shirt material with fur on the other side and a satin border. The pillow is a crotched back, lined and then topped with a quilt top that I pieced together. My friend embroidered Cecelia’s name on the centerpiece. I had enough material left that I also made a quilt to go with the set. My signature piece is a little ribboned garland that uses all the fabric scraps.  I even added the cute heart patch and adorable trim to the pillow just to bling them up.

I am now working on a set for my other niece’s baby boy who will be joining us this spring. I then have two nieces who have requested pillows of their own. I have absolutely enjoyed every minute of working on these for my smallest loved ones.

Some of my happiest and saddest moments this year revolve around babies! Our family is growing and it will make for a wonderful Christmas this year.  My niece brought her first baby into the world last month and we are all in awe and love at this beautiful angel. I’m looking forward to babysitting her this weekend so her mom and dad can spend some time celebrating with work friends for the holiday. I have been so excited about all the babies coming that I turned our guest room into a nursery so I can be more accommodating! My farm loving nephew and youngest brother will be joining us too! I have already decided it would be much more fun to camp out in the living room with the glow of the Christmas tree and warmth of the fireplace- it will be so magical!

Those who know us well are very aware that I have a huge heart for our pets. I have had a hidden dream for many years of raising some of our favorite breeds. This year I was able to start with my bantam cochins- both the buffed and calicos. We had our first seven chicks join the flock this summer and have thirteen eggs in the incubator for a winter batch. Sadly my hopes of breeding Mya were dashed. She is our beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who carries all of the sweetest breed temperaments that should be carried on. Unfortunately she also has a heart murmur. Our vet quickly convinced us to spay her when she told us it could endanger Mya’s health if we allowed her to carry a litter. We nursed our sorrows with the quick addition of another puppy! Maggie is a sassy little Yorkie! She is lucky she is cute because she certainly is ornery. We love her though. We know its only a stage and we look forward to many years with our adorable little pack.
